The U.S. Coast Guard’s Navigation Center acts as the liaison between civil users of the Global Positioning System, or GPS, and the GPS authorities. In this capacity, NAVCEN is assigned duties as Deputy Chair and Executive Secretariat for the Civil GPS Service Interface Committee, or CGSIC, and sits on various GPS program meetings to represent the user and advocate for the civil use of GPS. As part of the U.S. government’s GPS outreach effort, the CGSIC U.S. States and Local Government Subcommittee, will hold a regional meeting on June 6, 2014, at the U.S. Geological Survey Water Science Center for Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia.
The agenda for the meeting include operational status, modernization, space-based policy, climate change and international global navigation satellite systems.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. and conclude by 3:00 p.m. While in-person participation is encouraged, slides and audio through a web connection will be provided as well. All CGSIC meetings are free and open to the public and you are invited to come and learn about the broad array of GPS-based applications available to your state and local agency partners!
