On March 24, 2014, the Coast Guard implemented postdating of renewal Merchant Mariner Credentials, or MMCs, and it was recently noted that the online Credential Verification Tool is displaying the postdated credential as the mariner’s valid MMC.
It should be displaying the mariner’s current MMC until the issue date of the postdated credential. While it can be assumed that the postdated credential is identical to the current credential, additional verification can be accomplished by contacting the National Maritime Center’s Customer Service Center at 1-888-IASKNMC (427-5662) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday. We hope to have this corrected quickly and will provide an update when the situation has been remedied.
If you have questions, please contact the NMC at 1-888-IASKNMC (427-5662) or IASKNMC@uscg.mil.
