On March 14, 2016, the Coast Guard issued a final rule on safety regulations for uninspected commercial fishing vessels (CFVs) carrying flammable or combustible liquid cargoes in bulk. The revised regulations now apply only to fish processing vessels less than 5,000 gross tons, that incidental to its primary use, carries and dispenses limited quantities of flammable or combustible liquid cargo in bulk. The revisions align the regulations with the current applicable statute and make minor non-substantive changes. This rule promotes the Coast Guard’s maritime safety and stewardship (environmental protection) missions.

The Coast Guard published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on August 20, 2014. The NPRM proposed the revisions made in this final rule.
