11/28/2016: ‘Ships Bring the World to Us’ student art program winners

Each year, the Coast Guard, in partnership with the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), Mystic Aquarium and the Inter-American Committee on Ports of the Organization of American States (OAS-CIP), sponsors a student art program with themes that relate to the marine environment.

This year, the theme was “Ships Bring the World to Us.” Students across the Americas (North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean) in grades K-12 were invited to creatively depict the importance of ships and the cargos they carry. Twelve very impressive drawings were selected from the 260 entries and are featured in a 2017 Ships Bring the World to Us-themed calendar.

Maritime Commons would like to congratulate the winners of this competition, Julia Samson from Kapolei, Hawaii, and Zeva K. from Jacksonville. As such, we wanted to share their unique view of the role maritime industry plays with you, our followers.
