The Coast Guard issued a Federal Register notice today that, after reviewing comments received on the Atlantic Coast Port Access Route Study, it has determined that it is not necessary to revise the final report, and therefore considers it to be complete as published.
Comments were submitted by representatives of the maritime community, wind energy developers, non-government organizations, Federal and State government agencies, academic institutions and private citizens.
Topics covered by the comments included the Coast Guard’s role and relationship with the Department of Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the Coast Guard-developed Marine Planning Guidelines and navigation corridors, protection of right whales and continued public outreach.
The Atlantic Coast Port Access Route Study Workgroup was chartered to:
- Determine whether the Coast Guard should initiate actions to modify or create safety fairways, Traffic Separation Schemes or other routing measures
- Provide data, tools and/or methodology to assist in future determinations of waterways suitability for proposed projects
- Develop, in the near term, Automatic Identification System products and provide other support as necessary to assist districts with all emerging coastal and offshore energy projects
