4/5/2017: Recreational boat flotation standards-Update of outboard engine weight test requirements

As a courtesy to our audience, Maritime Commons will provide a daily compilation of nationally-relevant Federal Register Notices. To provide comments for the public record, follow the Federal Register link for each individual notice. Please note, the Coast Guard cannot respond to comments on these notices outside of the Federal Register.

The Coast Guard is issuing an interim rule to update the table of outboard engine weights used in calculating safe loading capacities and required amounts of flotation material. The engine weight table was last updated in 1984, and the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2015 requires the Coast Guard update the table to reflect a specific standard.

This interim rule is effective June 1, 2018. Comments and related material must be submitted on or before July 5, 2017.

View the Federal Register post to submit comments or read the interim rule in its entirety.
