The Coast Guard announced in a bulletin Sept. 8, 2017, that a new set of sample merchant mariner exams is available on the National Maritime Center’s (NMC) website. Section 315 of the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2015 requires the Coast Guard to make sample merchant mariner credential examinations and an outline of examination topics readily available to the public. The sample exams and topic outlines can be found on the “Sample Exams” tab on the Examinations page of the website.
The Coast Guard originally published the topics and sample exams on the NMC’s website in August 2016. It is the Coast Guard’s intent to refresh the sample exams annually.
To submit questions or comments, please contact the NMC via the Online Chat or Ticketing System, by e-mailing IASKNMC@uscg.mil, or by calling 1-888-IASKNMC (1-888-427-5662).
