American Waterways Operators released a new safety plan, Developing a Fatigue Risk Management Plan: A Guide for Towing Vessel Operators, to help the towing industry manage and mitigate risk factors associated with fatigue in the unique operational environment in which they work. The guide was endorsed in August 2018 by the Coast Guard-AWO National Quality Steering Committee and was developed in cooperation with Coast Guard prevention policy staff, the National Transportation Safety Board, and sleep experts. It covers four core elements: education, environment, work readiness and fatigue reporting, and performance management.
Developing a Fatigue Risk Management Plan: A Guide for Towing Vessel Operators, is available on AWO’s website.
