The Marine Safety Center issued the 19th U.S. Coast Guard Ballast Water Management System Type Approval Certificate to Alfa Laval Tumba AB, after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application determined the system met the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.
The treatment principle of the PureBallast 3.2 BWMS consists of filtration with UV treatment during uptake and discharge. This approval covers models with maximum treatment rated capacities between 85 m3/h and 3,000 m3/h.
Various models of the PureBallast 3 had previously all been approved on the same certificate (162.060/2/2). The most recent revision to the previous certificate (162.060/2/3) specified that it applies to the 3.0 and 3.1, and this new certificate (162.060/19/0) applies to only the 3.2.
A complete list of ballast water treatment systems that have been approved or have type approval applications currently under review can be found on the Marine Safety Center webpage. Redacted copies of all completed type approval certificates are also available.
