National Boating Safety Advisory Committee appoints new members

The U. S. Coast Guard announces the appointment of two individuals to serve as new members of the National Boating Safety Advisory Committee (NBSAC).

The U. S. Coast Guard has announced the appointment of two individuals to serve as new members of the National Boating Safety Advisory Committee (NBSAC).

The NBSAC was established on December 4, 2018, § 601 of the Frank LoBiondo Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2018  (Pub. L. No. 115-282, 132 Stat. 4192), and is codified in 46 U.S.C. § 15105.  The Committee operates under the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (5 U.S.C. Appendix) and 46 U.S.C. § 15109.  The function of the Committee is to provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Homeland Security through the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard and the Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy on matters relating to national boating safety.

The NBSAC’s charter requires that it be composed of 21 members who are appointed by and who serve at the pleasure of the Secretary of Homeland Security.  Each member selected has particular expertise, knowledge, and experience regarding recreational boating safety.  Following procedures in 46 U.S.C. § 15109, the Secretary of Homeland Security will appoint persons to the following membership:

Each member holds office for a term up to three years.
