The Coast Guard Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance (CVC) has announced the cancellation of CG-CVC Policy Letter 17-01, issued March 10, 2017 – Use of the Uninspected Towing Vessel (UTV) Decal to Meet Certain Requirements Regarding Issuance of the Initial COI Under Subchapter M, and CG-534 Policy Letter 10-02, issued March 11, 2010 – Existing Systems and Equipment on Uninspected Towing Vessels.
CG-543 Policy Letter 10-02, Existing Systems and Equipment on Uninspected Towing Vessels, provided guidance for the inspection of existing systems and equipment, required by 46 CFR Subchapter C, Uninspected Towing Vessels (UTVs), until final regulations for the inspection of UTV’s was promulgated. This guidance was incorporated into the final rulemaking of 46 CFR Subchapter M – Towing Vessels effective July 20, 2016.
CG-CVC Policy Letter 17-01, Use of the UTV Decal to Meet Certain Requirements Regarding Issuance of the Initial COI Under Subchapter M, provided guidance on use of a valid UTV decal to achieve compliance for the initial COI during phase-in. As the phase-in period for Subchapter M concluded as of July 19, 2022, and the bridging program is no longer necessary, this policy is obsolete.
These policy documents are hereby cancelled.
