The Coast Guard Cyber Command, Maritime Cyber Readiness Branch has issued Maritime Cyber Alert 01-22 to inform stakeholders of an increase in fake business websites targeting the Marine Transportation System (MTS).

The Coast Guard’s Office of Operating and Environmental Standards (CG-OES) has released Policy Letter 02-22 which describes the process for submitting viability testing methods to the Coast Guard and explains the information needed to evaluate a testing method. 

Recap of the 8th session of the IMO sub-committee on ship systems and equipment

The IMO Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE), held its 8th session  virtually February 28- March 4, 2022. Ms. Brandi Baldwin, Chief of the Coast Guard’s Lifesaving and Fire Safety Division in the Office of Design and Engineering Standards, led the U.S. delegation, comprised of members from the Coast Guard and technical advisors from government and private sectors.

The Office of Merchant Mariner Credentialing is hosting an intersessional meeting of the National Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee (N-MERPAC) subcommittee on the Review of Job Task Analysis Reports for Merchant Mariner Credential Endorsements. The subcommittee will meet virtually through Microsoft Teams on April 12, 2022. The meeting will convene 12 p.m.-3 p.m. (EDT).

As training providers and the Coast Guard embrace the use of remote training delivery tools and methodologies, the National Maritime Center (NMC) is updating its course approval business practices.

Merchant Mariner Examination Working Group (Update)

Industry Notice: Low flashpoint fuel exams on foreign passenger vessels 

The Coast Guard’s Cruise Ship National Center of Expertise (CSNCOE) and the Liquefied Gas Carriers National Center of Expertise (LGCNCOE) have issued a Joint Industry Notice to provide guidance to cruise ship owners, operators, and builders regarding United States Coast Guard examinations for foreign passenger vessels built with fuel systems utilizing Low-flashpoint fuels (LFF).
