7/25/2018: Registration open for Gulf of Mexico Area Maritime Security Committee’s annual exercise

The Gulf of Mexico Area Maritime Security Committee is holding its annual table top security exercise in Galveston, Texas, and is inviting all maritime stakeholders and government agencies operating in the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf to participate. The exercise will focus on unique physical security threat identification, assessment, and communications procedures for stakeholders and agencies in the Gulf of Mexico OCS. Attendee registration closes Aug. 1, 2018.

5/17/2018: Recap of Center for Offshore Safety’s panel session with assistant commandant for prevention policy and BSEE director

Rear Adm. John Nadeau, assistant commandant for prevention policy, recently joined Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Director Scott Angelle for a panel session during this year’s Offshore Technology Conference in Houston. The session, moderated by Charlie Williams with Center for Offshore Safety, was part of COS’s Senior Regulatory Leadership Perspective series on Safety, Safety Management, and Future Regulatory Activity.

As a testament of our joint efforts with the offshore oil and gas sectors, we are pleased to highlight some of our accomplishments from this past year in the 2017 Joint Activity Summary. We believe that data sharing helps establish clarity with stakeholders and also provides industry with confidence that the federal government is continuously improving its approach to consistent regulatory inspection and enforcement. This is an important element in a broader strategy of both BSEE and the Coast Guard to advocate a constantly improving safety culture on the Outer Continental Shelf.
