The United States Coast Guard announced in the Federal Register that it is proposing to update the type approval requirements for certain types of equipment that survival craft are required to carry on U.S.-flagged vessels.
IMO Announces 2020 Exceptional Bravery at Sea Awards
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has awarded the 2020 Awards for Exceptional Bravery at Sea to Mr. Mario Santos Teixeira and Mr. Fabio Rodrigues Alves de Abreu, members of the Sao Paulo Pilots, as well as Petty Officer Second Class Ralph Ofalla Barajan of the Philippine Coast Guard.

Eighth District MSIB: Extension of Third Party Surveys
In an effort to help minimize possible exposure of the novel coronavirus to offshore oil and gas facilities the Outer Continental Shelf Officer in Charge Marine Inspection has published Marine Safety Information Bulletin 20-03 that allows operators to differ the third party inspections associated with the Coast Guard regulated firefighting and lifesaving systems, as well as cranes, until 31 July, 2020.
