The Coast Guard Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy has published Marine Safety Information Bulletin 01-22 “Ensuring the validity of merchant mariner credentials and endorsements” to discuss the process of verifying the validity of merchant mariner credentials (MMCs) for current and prospective employees.
The National Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee (N-MERAPC) will be holding three subcommittee meetings pertaining to Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault- Prevention and Culture Change in the Merchant Marine, STCW Convention and Code Review, and Military Education, Training, and Assessment for STCW and National Mariner Endorsements.

The National Maritime Center has released a notice regarding actions being taken to reduce the inventory of course and program approval requests.
Under the Military to Mariner credentialing program, the NMC can offer credit for military training and experience, credit for military sea service, and offer potential fee waivers to those who qualify.
