Last week, Maritime Commons attended the 2014 Offshore Technology Conference. For those of you who couldn’t make the event, here is a wrap-up of what was covered, during two panels, in which the assistant commandant for Coast Guard prevention policy, Rear Adm. Joseph Servidio, and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement director, Brian Salerno, shared the stage.

5/8/2014: Workplace safety & health for merchant mariners

The Coast Guard published a proposed rule and seeks public comment on a petition that requests the Coast Guard to initiate a rulemaking to address mariner occupational health and safety.

5/2/2014: Federal Register Notice of Outer Continental Shelf Units-Fire and Explosion Analyses

The Coast Guard issued a Federal Register Notice of recommended interim voluntary guidelines concerning mobile offshore drilling units, or MODUs, and manned fixed and floating offshore facilities engaged in activities on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf.

4/30/2014: Caribbean Port State Control Regimes Announce 2014 Concentrated Inspection Campaign

The Coast Guard’s Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance issued a marine inspection notice that announces a concentrated inspection campaign.

4/28/2014 Safety Alert: Inadequate Snaphooks on Lifejackets

The Office of Investigations and Casualty Analysis issued a safety alert to provide awareness of an issue that was identified a few years ago with snaphooks on lifejackets.
