Rear Adm. John Nadeau, assistant commandant for prevention policy, represented the U.S. Coast Guard at the Posidonia international shipping conference in Athens, Greece earlier this month and participated in several panel discussions on topics relevant to the international maritime community. This post kicks off a four-part series highlighting Nadeau’s presentations, for the benefit of our readers who were unable to attend the conference. In our first post, Nadeau gives his perspective on enforcement of the upcoming IMO 2020 global sulphur cap.

6/15/2018: 2017 Area Maritime Security Committee of the Year announced

The Coast Guard congratulates the Charleston Area Maritime Security Committee as the recipient of the 2017 AMSC of the Year award. The award is based on outstanding achievements and contributions in safeguarding the Marine Transportation System, including port areas, adjacent waterways, coastal and/or shore areas, waterfront facilities, and other maritime critical infrastructure and key assets.

5/22/2018: Notice of public meeting in preparation for the 68th session of the IMO’s Technical Cooperation Committee Meeting and the 120th session of the IMO Council

The Coast Guard announced in a Federal Register Notice that it will conduct an open public meeting in Washington, D.C., June 13, 2018, in preparation for the upcoming 68th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Technical Cooperation Committee Meeting and the 120th session of the IMO Council to be held at the IMO Headquarters in London.
