7/25/2017: Recap of remarks by Rear Adm. Paul Thomas at AAPA’s port security seminar

Adm. Thomas recently spoke at the American Association of Port Authorities Port Security Seminar and Expo in Chicago, Illinois. The expo brought members together to take a closer look at securing America‚Äôs ports from the inside out, with a special focus on supply chain security and their related cybersecurity and security related technology. This post provides a condensed version of Thomas’s remarks for our readers who were unable to attend the expo.

7/25/2017: Information collection request to Office of Management and Budget – Characteristics of liquid chemicals proposed for bulk water movement

The Coast Guard seeks comments from manufacturers of chemicals on an extension of its approval for the collection of information for the Characteristics of Liquid Chemicals Proposed for Bulk Water Movement without change. Comments must be received by the Coast Guard by Aug. 23, 2017.

7/24/2017: Information collection request to Office of Management and Budget – Great Lakes Pilotage

The Office of Great Lakes Pilotage is seeking a revision of the Office of Management and Budget’s current approval for Great Lakes Pilotage data collection requirements for the three U.S. pilot associations it regulates. This revision would require continued submission of data to an electronic collection system. This system is identified as the Great Lakes Electronic Pilot Management System which will eventually replace the manual paper submissions currently used to collect data on bridge hours, vessel delay, vessel detention, vessel cancellation, vessel movement, pilot travel, revenues, pilot availability, and related data. Comments must be received by Aug. 23, 2017.

7/21/2017: Reminder – national merchant mariner credential extension expires September 30

The Coast Guard granted extensions of national endorsements for any mariner whose Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) expired on or after Dec. 1, 2016. The extension was effective immediately and remains valid until Sept. 30, 2017. Mariners are not authorized to sail on an expired MMC after Sept. 30, 2017. Mariners are encouraged to apply for renewal as soon as possible. Overall processing time for applications remains approximately 60 days. The extension does not apply to STCW endorsements or medical certificates.
