Earlier this week, Capt. John Mauger, commanding officer of the Marine Safety Center, delivered a keynote address at the third annual International Maritime Safety Conference in Busan, Korea. The conference was attended by hundreds of participants from Asia, Europe and the Americas and covered a wide range of topics from casualty investigation, salvage, risk analysis, human element, big data, and automation. This post provides a summary of Mauger’s remarks.
6/13/2017: **UPDATE** LGC NCOE Field Notice on evaluation and authorization of simultaneous operations during LNG bunkering
The post dated June 13, 2017, announcing the availability of LGC NCOE’s Field Notice 01-2017: Evaluation and Authorization of Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) During Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Bunkering has been temporarily disabled until the Field Notice can be updated with the most current information. 6/9/2017: Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) site decommissioning

Within the last year, the nationwide DGPS system has undergone a substantial reduction in the number of operational sites. Most of the sites are owned and maintained by USCG, but a few are owned and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). USACE will employ a phased shutdown of its five remaining DGPS sites. The 39 USCG owned and operated DGPS sites will continue to transmit.
6/9/2017: Marine Safety Center issues Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) type approval certificates to Sunrui Marine Environment Engineering Co., Ltd.
The Coast Guard Marine Safety Center issued the fourth U.S. Coast Guard Ballast Water Management System Type Approval Certificate to Sunrui Marine Environment Engineering Co., Ltd. after a detailed review of the manufactures type approval application determined the system met the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.
