10/24/2017: Policy letter regarding credentialing of seafarers working on board Hurricane Marie relief vessels in Puerto Rico and USVI

This policy letter provides the guidelines to be used by sector commanders and Officers in Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMI) when considering requests for vessels to participate in this relief effort. This policy letter will expire on Jan. 31, 2018. The Coast Guard will use this policy as a guide for determining appropriate manning of vessels providing relief support.

10/17/2017: Policy letter 17-06 (Change 1) – Guidance on vessels providing hurricane response support to Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands

The Coast Guard Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance announced the promulgation of a policy letter to provide guidance for vessels involved in relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

9/19/2017: Temporary closure of Monitoring Unit San Juan, Puerto Rico

Electronic applications are still being accepted, but paper applications should be sent to another regional exam center for processing. The National Maritime Center will continue to work applications submitted prior to Tuesday, September 19.
