New Independent Lab accepted
The Coast Guard’s Office of Operating and Environmental Standards announced that it accepted PIA GmbH located in Aachen, Germany as a new Independent Laboratory for testing of ballast water management systems.
10/17/2018: U.S. Ballast Water Management Requirements: Operational limitations in type approval testing
This post provides information on a letter recently sent to the Coast Guard accepted independent laboratories providing guidance for evaluating manufacturer-identified operational limitations during type approval testing of ballast water management systems. The letter clarifies the responsibilities of the BWMS manufacturer, the Coast Guard accepted IL, and the Coast Guard, with regard to evaluating and assessing operational limitations of BWMS.
12/14/2015: Coast Guard decision on use of Most Probable Number method
Today, the Coast Guard informed four ultraviolet ballast water management system manufacturers that the Most Probable Number method is not considered as an equivalent alternative to the testing method prescribed in the Coast Guard’s regulations pertaining to the type-approval of ballast water systems.
