The IMO Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE), held its 8th session virtually February 28- March 4, 2022. Ms. Brandi Baldwin, Chief of the Coast Guard’s Lifesaving and Fire Safety Division in the Office of Design and Engineering Standards, led the U.S. delegation, comprised of members from the Coast Guard and technical advisors from government and private sectors.
Eighth District MSIB: Extension of third party surveys – Update (Change 1)
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis the Outer Continental Shelf Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection is permitting the extension of third party surveys for firefighting and lifesaving equipment until 30 September on a case-by-case basis.

The Sub-Committee established three ad hoc working groups on fire protection, life-saving appliances, and the development of measures for onboard lifting appliances and winches, and an ad hoc drafting group on the develop of guidelines for cold ironing of ships.
