Marine Safety Alert: Alarming trends found on fixed gas detection systems

The Inspections and Compliance Directorate issued Marine Safety Alert 02-20 to educate the maritime community about common discrepancies associated with fixed gas detection systems on board liquefied gas carriers.

Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise, industry partners provide familiarization training to Coast Guard LNG fueled vessel inspectors

The workshop was a collaboration between industry and the Coast Guard designed to provide the approximately 35 Coast Guard marine inspectors from across the nation with an overall understanding and awareness of LNG as a marine fuel. They can apply this knowledge while overseeing new construction projects, examining visiting foreign vessels, overseeing bunkering operations, and regulating fuel system conversions.

5/20/2019: Coast Guard gives three-day LNG training to Panama Canal Authority

Staff with the Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise (LGC NCOE) delivered training May 7-10, 2019, on all aspects of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to representatives from the Panama Canal Authority and Panama Maritime Authority, and first responders. LGC NCOE staff covered a wide array of topics pertinent to the transportation of LNG to include the chemical and physical properties of LNG, LNG gas carriers, LNG terminals, and the use of LNG as a marine fuel.

3/27/2019: Summary of recent Chemical Transportation Advisory Committee meeting

Over 40 members of the chemical and gas industry, along with representatives of the Office of Design and Engineering Standards, and local Coast Guard marine inspectors, attended the Chemical Transportation Advisory Committee public meetings at Sector Houston-Galveston, March 20-21, 2019 and discussed important issues related to the safe and secure marine transportation of hazardous materials.

12/14/2018: Coast Guard and industry reps host 4th Liquefied Gas Senior Executive Forum

Senior Coast Guard leaders and liquefied-gas-industry experts from around the country recently came together in Houston to discuss ways the maritime community can prepare for the increased use of liquefied gases, and gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies each party faces as they adapt to the continued growth of this multi-billion dollar industry in the maritime domain.

8/17/2018: Liquefied Gas Carrier NCOE delivers training to Cheniere, Sector Corpus Christi

The Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise gives LNG training to Cheniere’s LNG PICs and local Coast Guardsmen in Corpus Christi.

7/9/2018: Waterway suitability assessment to increase liquefied natural gas facility berths and vessel traffic; Cameron Parish, Louisiana

The U.S. Coast Guard published a notice in the Federal Register requesting comments on a Letter of Intent and Preliminary Waterway Suitability Assessment regarding plans for new berths at an LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, and to increase the number of LNG vessels at the facility from 400 to 580 annually. The Letter of Intent and Preliminary Waterway Suitability Assessment were submitted by Sabine Pass LNG, L.P. Comments must be received by August 8, 2018.
