Following the publication of Subchapter M, Inspections for Towing Vessels, the Coast Guard Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise established a website that will address frequently asked questions about the new requirements.
The Coast Guard Marine Safety Center published Marine Safety Center (MSC) Bulletin 04-16, Submittal of Documents to MSC for Review per 46 CFR Subchapter M, following the publication of the Subchapter M final rule.
Today, the Coast Guard published subchapter M of title 46 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, which establishes new regulations and requirements for owners and operations of tows and towing vessels.
Today, the Office of the Federal Register posted notice of the Subchapter M rule to the public inspection webpage. Once published, Subchapter M will establish safety regulations governing the inspection and standards of towing vessels, while providing a safety management system compliance option.
The Coast Guard announced that the Towing Safety Advisory Committee will meet, via teleconference, to receive two additional tasks: the implementation of 46 Code of Federal Regulations subchapter M and training requirement for firefighting equipment for inland towing vessels.
